Dutch National Opera presents
Songs of Hope
The Chorus of Dutch National Opera and its future chief conductor Lorenzo Viotti break the silence of the second lockdown with an atmospheric musical programme. Together they explore the meaning of silence, stillness and the sheer power of the human voice. A cappella, without instrumental accompaniment, the chorus performs a varied repertoire stretching from the Renaissance to the twentieth century. Online premiere on 20 December 2020.

Lorenzo Viotti
Lorenzo Viotti will be the chief conductor of Dutch National Opera and the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra as of September 2021. He previously made a brilliant debut with Dutch National Opera with a double bill of verismo classics Pagliacci and Cavalleria rusticana. Now, in this complex time, he joins us to explore a completely different, much more subdued musical universe with our Chorus. A cappella, i.e. without an orchestra, our future chief gets to know 'his' chorus.
From Carlo Gesualdo to Benjamin Britten
Lorenzo Viotti and Ching-Lien Wu, the artistic director of our chorus, have put together a rich programme. The programme includes choral pieces by Carlo Gesualdo, Igor Stravinsky, Samuel Barber, Benjamin Britten and Francis Poulenc, among others.
Deep beauty, wonderful staging, moving and joyful at the same time. Thank you very much, happy holidays!
