
Meisje Barbara Hummel
Meisje Barbara Hummel (first assistant director) studied music theatre directing at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin. From 1989 to 2006, she was assistant director and head director with the Sächsische Staatsoper Dresden, where she worked with Ruth Berghaus, Willy Decker, Andreas Homoki and Peter Konwitschny, among others. Meisje Barbara Hummel has staged her own productions of Undine, Die Csárdásfürstin, La vie parisienne and Eine Nacht in Venedig. For various opera houses, she rehearsed many productions by Willy Decker, including Siegfried and Götterdämmerung (Teatro Real Madrid), Die Soldaten (New National Theatre Tokyo), Die tote Stadt (Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, San Francisco Opera, Opéra National de Paris), La traviata (Metropolitan Opera New York, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia Valencia) and Don Carlo (Teatr Wielki Warsaw).
She rehearsed productions by Peter Konwitschny in Gotenburg and Graz. From 1989 to 2006, Meisje Barbara Hummel was a teacher with the opera chorus studio of the Sächsische Staatsoper Dresden, and from 2000 to 2006 also at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden. Since 2006, she has been working as assistant director and coordinator of the directing staff with Dutch National Opera, where she is also involved in various activities, such as the participation project Singing with Dutch National Opera. With Dutch National Opera, she has rehearsed the following productions: Lear, Die Soldaten, Die tote Stadt, Káťa Kabanová, Don Carlo and La traviata.
