Jaap van Hellenberg Hubar studied Administrative and Organisational Science, with a Master's degree in Arts Policy and Management at Utrecht University. While studying, he was active as a pianist and double bass player in the Utrechtsch Studenten Concert, and began his career as a producer with organisations such as ensemble Insomnio, Festival Oude Muziek and Festival Who's Next. As part of his masters, he completed an internship at the executive secretariat of the Dutch National Opera & Ballet in 2017. He developed his love for making opera when he was in charge of organising the opera production Thijl, a grand Dutch-language opera by composer and resistance fighter Jan van Gilse. This production took place at Soesterberg Air Base in 2018 and was nominated for an International Opera Award.
Since January 2019, he has worked for Dutch National Opera, where his responsibilities in the artistic affairs department have included artist contracts, audiovisual exploitation and (inter)national cooperation. From 2022, he has been appointed business manager of Dutch National Opera.
