Aldert Vermeulen

Conductor / assistant conductor

Aldert Vermeulen studied piano at the Sweelinck Academy and conducting with Joop van Zon, both in Amsterdam. He won the Bach-Preis for piano at the Bach Competition in Cologne. Following his studies, he worked on opera productions, deepening his knowledge of conducting as an assistant to various well-known conductors, such as Riccardo Chailly, Colin Davis, Edo de Waart and John Eliot Gardiner. From 2000, the conductor Christian Thielemann took him as an assistant to the Wagner Festspiele in Bayreuth. Aldert Vermeulen has conducted with the Nederlandse Reisopera, Het Orkest van het Oosten, the Residentie Orkest in The Hague, the Noord Nederlands Orkest, the Nederlands Kamerorkest, Opera Zuid and the Hong Kong Philharmonic. From 2009 to 2013, Aldert Vermeulen was the artistic director of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
