Monique Duurvoort

Monique Duurvoort is a choreographer and former professional dancer. She danced with Dutch National Ballet for 13 years. After ending her career at Dutch National Ballet she studied Art and Culture Management at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam and started choreographing. Duurvoort stands out by her own crossover movement vocabulary of both academic and hip hop/urban hop dance styles. In a short period of time she made some successful pieces and work for various dance companies and academies and became co-artistic director at the youth dance-theatre company ISH. Since 2010 Duurvoort produces under her own foundation: Monique Duurvoort Dance (MDDance). Here she explores various themes surrounding cultural identity and background, self-esteem, shared history, cultural differences and social tensions. In 2007 Duurvoort won the Prize of the Dutch Dance Days for most talented choreographer in the Dutch professional dance scene.
