Johannes Öhman

Johannes Öhman has been Artistic Director of the Royal Swedish Ballet since 2011. He studied at the Royal Swedish Ballet School and afterwards joined the Royal Swedish Ballet, where he was appointed first soloist in 1991. Between 2002- 2007 he directed “Stockholm 59° North”, a neoclassical-contemporary dance company consisting of soloists of The Royal Swedish Ballet. In 2007 Öhman was appointed Artistic Director of The Göteborg Dance Company, formerly Gothenburg Ballet, the largest contemporary dance company in Scandinavia.



When Öhman took over the artistic directorship of The Royal Swedish Ballet in 2011 he started developing the repertoire to include creations in classical ballet as well as contemporary dance. Under his influence The Royal Swedish Ballet is currently sought after and invited to festivals world-wide and in 2016 Öhman received H. M. The King's Medal "Litteris et Artibus" for outstanding artistic contributions as Artistic Director.
