Swinging, swaying, falling, whirling, leaping, rolling, twisting, and having fun. At Jump Dance Day, all young ballet fans may do what they enjoy most: dance! The most fun workshops and a special performance will be held on Saturday 22 June, in the ballet studios and Main Stage of Dutch National Opera & Ballet, specifically for children aged 4 to 17.
Plié, chassé, assemblé, jeté
Jump workshops are divided into four groups based on age (not level). The ages span from 4 to 6 years, 7 to 10 years, 11 to 13 years, and 14 to 17 years. See the blocks below for age-specific information.
Theme

Groups
Group Plié
Clara and Frits skate along the canals, as snow spirals down. But then the mice and the Nutcracker appear...
- What time: 11:30 – 14:00
- Put on: Your ballet attire with a cardigan
- Bring: Ballet shoes, lunch, a card with your parent’s phone number (if they are not going as a chaperone), and the permission form for photos
- Cost: € 15 for the entire day, including performance

Please keep in mind that Dance Day requires a minimum age of four years
Group Chassé
During the workshop, you will dance like the many characters from the performance: darting like a snowflake, wooden like a nutcracker, and cheery like Clara. Or, like mice versus soldiers! Attack!

Group Assemblé
Many parts of The Nutcracker and the Mouse King’s choreography are lots of fun to learn. The dance of the snowflakes or one of the countries, for example. In this workshop, you will work on them!

Group Jeté
Please keep in mind that Group Jeté is divided into two groups: 1) pointe and 2) repertoire. Some pointe experience is required for the pointe group, which means that you can already stand on pointe and have had more than ten classes.
Both groups will be introduced to The Nutcracker and the Mouse King during the warm-up before continuing on with it under the direction of Marion Vijn (Dutch National Ballet Academy).
If you sign up for the pointe shoe workshop, you will be offered tips and tricks by pointe shoe expert Jane Lord; she has a long history of dancing with Dutch National Ballet and will teach you a lot of new things!
We will be practising actual parts from The Nutcracker and the Mouse King in the repertoire group!

Performance
At 13:15, Dutch National Ballet will give a unique performance. Parents, siblings, and grandparents may attend the performance for €15 each. All tickets are unreserved, which means you’re free to select a seat with your child once the hall doors open.
*Group Plié: Each group is accompanied by Jump. If you want to accompany yourself as a chaperone (a maximum of one chaperone per kid), you must first purchase a ticket to the performance. Tickets can be purchased on our website. We do not accompany children at the performance.
**Group Chassé: We will not be accompanying the children to the performance, but we will do so during the workshop.
