Dame Sarah Connolly
British mezzo-soprano Sarah Connolly, who studied piano and singing at The Royal College of Music in London, has a wide-ranging repertoire. Her breakthrough role was as Xerxes in Handel’s Serse at the English National Opera. Since then, she has been a much sought-after guest performer at The Royal Opera House in London, The Metropolitan Opera New York, Teatro alla Scala in Milan (Italy) and the Vienna State Opera (Austria), and at festivals such as the Glyndebourne Festival (UK) and the Bayreuther Festspiele (Germany). Although best-known for her baroque catalogue, she has also performed roles in late-romantic works by Wagner, Strauss and Mahler. In her concert repertoire, she has worked with the London Symphony Orchestra, and German orchestras such as Staatskapelle Dresden and the Berliner Philharmoniker. She will now return to Dutch National Opera, where she previously sang the title roles in Handel operas Giulio Cesare (2008) and Ariodante (2016).
