On Friday 14 July, Dutch National Ballet performed the United Stated premiere of the ballet Frida in The Music Center in Los Angeles. After that, the colourful ballet by the Flemish-Colombian choreographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa was performed in The Music Center two more times: on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 July. This performance series of Frida was the third and last part Dutch National Ballet’s tour of the United States.
Frida tells the life story of one of the most intriguing artists of the 20th century: Mexican Frida Kahlo. Choreographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa was also fascinated by the artist and created the the full-length ballet Frida, in which she highlights the most significant events in the artist's life. Dutch National Ballet danced the world premiere of Frida in 2020.

Annabelle Lopez Ochoa
Annabelle Lopez Ochoa danced with various companies before deciding to focus entirely on choreography from 2003. Soon she was described by the NRC as ‘the rising star of the Dutch dance world.’ Frida, a work for 49 dancers, is the largest production the Flemish-Colombian Lopez Ochoa has created to this day.
