The American Claron McFadden is an acclaimed and versatile singer. She graduated in 1984 from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. In that same year, she moved to the Netherlands where she made her opera debut at the Holland Festival in 1985. McFadden has worked with big names such as William Christie, Fabio Biondi, Jörg Widmann, Michel van der Aa, and The Arditti Quartet as a soloist. She is also a much-appreciated soloist at the prestigious Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Bayerische Staatsoper, and the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London. She is a returning guest at Dutch National Opera, where she made her debut in 1989 in the role of Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos. The soprano has performed at various festivals, including the Festival d'Aix en Provence and the Glyndebourne Festival.
In addition to several live performances for radio and television, McFadden has also made many CDs for major labels such as EMI. She was nominated for a Grammy for Birtwistle’s “The Woman and the Hare” performance with the Nash Ensemble.
Because of her great versatility, she is regularly invited to perform with jazz musicians such as Eric Vloeimans, Henk Meutgeert, and the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw. In 2006 she received the Amsterdam Prize for the Arts and in 2020 she was honoured as Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau.
