
Wayne McGregor
He is Artistic Director of Studio Wayne McGregor, encompassing creative collaborations in dance, film, music, visual art, technology and science; a touring company of dancers Company Wayne McGregor; and learning and research programmes.
Wayne McGregor is also Resident Choreographer at The Royal Ballet and is the Director of Dance for the Venice Biennale until 2024. He is also regularly commissioned by and has works in the repertories of the most important ballet companies around the world including Paris Opera Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, New York City Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet and Australian Ballet.
He is in demand as a choreographer for theatre (The Old Vic, National Theatre, Royal Court Theatre, Donmar Warehouse) opera (Teatro alla Scala/The Royal Opera, English National Ballet), film (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, The Legend of Tarzan, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them 1 ,2 and 3 Sing, Mary Queen of Scots), and music videos (Radiohead, The Chemical Brothers). McGregor choreographed the highly anticipated ABBA Voyage concert which premiered in London in May 2022. Apart from his engagements as a choreographer and director, McGregor is also a Professor of Choreography at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.
In 2011, McGregor was awarded a CBE for Services to Dance and in 2021 was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Prix de Lausanne.
During Shadows, the opening performance of Dutch National Ballet's 2022-2023 season, Wayne McGregor's choreography Yugen was performed. In November 2022, McGregor’s latest work MADDADDAM, a co-production by The National Ballet of Canada and The Royal Ballet, will premiere at The National Ballet of Canada. He collaborated on the piece with Canadian author Margaret Atwood.
