Markus Nykänen

Finnish tenor Markus Nykänen is a former member of Theater Basel’s young artists programme,  OperAvenir. Roles include Spoletta in Tosca, Cassio in Otello, Tybalt in Romeo et Juliette and Malcolm in Macbeth (Theater Basel), Iopas in Les Troyens (conducted by Kent Nagano) and Remendado in Carmen (Staatsoper Hamburg). In 2016, he sung one of the leading parts in Indigo at its world premiere at Finnish National Opera. Recent highlights at Finnish National Opera include Alfredo in La traviata, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Froh in Das Rheingold, Victorin in Die tote Stadt, Rodolfo in La bohème, and Pang in Turandot.

Markus Nykänen will make his DNO debut with the role of The Bridegroom (Tuomas) in Innocence, which will be performed at Dutch National Opera from 7 to 22 October 2023.
