Lucy Shelton

Soprano

Soprano Lucy Shelton is internationally recognised for her work in the 20th and 21st century repertoire. She has premiered nearly 100 works written for her by Carter, Knussen, Ruders and Goehr, among others, and has sung dramatic works including Berio’s Passaggio, Tippett’s The Midsummer Marriage and Dallapiccola’s Il Prigioniero (BBC Proms debut). Additional highlights include Boulez’s Le Visage Nuptial under the composer’s direction in Los Angeles, Chicago, London and Paris, and Kurtág’s The Sayings of Peter Bornemisza with pianist Andras Schiff in London, Vienna and Berlin. She is the only artist to receive the International Walter W. Naumburg Award twice, as chamber musician and solo recitalist.

Lucy Shelton makes her DNO debut with the role of The Teacher in Innocence, to be seen at Dutch National Opera from 7 to 22 October 2023.
