Performance by Dutch National Ballet during state visit to the Czech Republic

27 May 2025

During the state visit to the Czech Republic on 5 June 2025, dancers of Dutch National Ballet will perform at the historic Estates Theatre in Prague. The performance is part of the official programme of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima.

The royal couple is paying a two-day visit to the country at the invitation of Czech President Petr Pavel. The performance is part of the so-called return gesture (contraprestatie in Dutch): an evening programme offered by the visiting head of state as a token of appreciation for the hospitality received. While this used to take the form of a second state banquet, it is now often shaped as a cultural event. The performance will take place in the presence of President Pavel and his wife Eva Pavlová.

The programme features three works by two leading choreographers: Wings of Wax by the Czech-Dutch Jiří Kylián, and Variations for Two Couples and Solo by Hans van Manen.
