21 October 2022

The English Opera Magazine - originator of the International Opera Awards - announced the nominees for the 2022 awards.

Best digital opera
Dutch National Opera is nominated for the International Opera Awards 2022 in the "best digital opera" category. DNO earned a nomination in this category for its production of Upload by composer, librettist and director Michel van der Aa. A preview of the film version of Upload was part of the Opera Forward Festival (OFF) in March 2021, followed by the scenic premiere of the film opera at Dutch National Opera & Ballet in October 2021.

Upload: composition commissioned and coproduced by Dutch National Opera, DoubleA Foudation (Amsterdam), Ensemble MusikFabrik (Cologne), Oper Köln (Cologne), Bregenzer Festspiele, Park Avenue Armory (New York)

Best conductor
Also well worth mentioning are the nominations in the category "best conductor" for two female conductors who will be guests of Dutch National Opera still this season! These are conductor Eun Sun Kim - she will be conducting Messa da Requiem in February 2023 - and Joana Mallwitz, who will be on the baton with Rusalka at the end of this season.

There are awards to be earned in 16 categories, also known as the 'Oscars of opera'. The winners will be announced November 28 at the awards ceremony at Teatro Real in Madrid.
