David Dawson and Dutch National Ballet extend creative partnership

15 January 2025

David Dawson, internationally renowned choreographer of contemporary classical ballet, will continue his collaboration with Dutch National Ballet for the coming years. The company and Dawson, who has held the title of Associate Artist since 2015, have extended their partnership through 2025–2029.

As Associate Artist, Dawson has played a pivotal role in shaping the artistic development and repertoire of Dutch National Ballet. His works—such as Legacy Variations, Empire Noir, A Million Kisses to My Skin, Anima Animus, Citizen Nowhere, The Grey Area, and Requiem—are celebrated for their innovative movement language and emotional depth, continually pushing the boundaries of classical ballet.

David Dawson:
“I am very happy to continue my creative relationship as Associate Artist with Dutch National Ballet and honoured to be able to call Dutch National Opera & Ballet my artistic home. I am excited about what the future will bring and look forward to creating new work with the incredible dancers of the company and building on the legacy that we have already shared together for so many years.”

From 12 to 22 June 2025, Dawson’s impressive ballet The Four Seasons (2022) will be presented as the grand finale of the programme Other Dances. At its world premiere, this piece—set to Max Richter’s re-interpretation of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons—received standing ovations. In this ballet, Dawson explores the cycles of life in a work that combines all the elements of his unique artistry: lyricism, emotion, ecstasy, and a movement idiom that borders on the physically impossible.
