7 March 2023

Conductor Kenneth Montgomery (1943-2023) passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at the age of 79. For fifty years, the Belfast-born Brit, who had lived in the Netherlands for many years, left his mark on the Dutch music world. He made his debut in 1970 with the Dutch Opera Foundation, a forerunner of Dutch National Opera, with Cavalli’s L’Ormindo. He conducted numerous operas and appeared nineteen times as a guest conductor at Dutch National Opera. The last time was with Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel in 1990. Dutch National Opera & Ballet sends its heartfelt condolences to his loved ones.
