Marc Albrecht, Chief Conductor of The Dutch National Opera and the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra| Netherlands Chamber Orchestra is known not only for his interpretations of works by Wagner and Richard Strauss, but also for his affinity for contemporary music. Marc Albrecht has been a guest conductor with the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Münchner Philharmoniker, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the City or Birmingham Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra or Europe, Danish National Symphony, Orchestre National de France, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic and the orchestras of Rome (Santa Cecilia), Dresden and Lyon. He has conducted among other productions Der Fliegende Holländer (Bayreuther Festspiele, 2003-2006), Die Bacchantinnen (Salzburger Festspiele, 2005) and From the House of the Dead (Opéra National de Paris, 2005). From 2001 to 2004 he was principal guest conductor at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where he conducted among other things the highly acclaimed performance of Saint François d’Assise. From 2006 to 2011 he was artistic leader and chief conductor of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg. Marc Albrecht is also closely linked to the Semperoper Dresden, where in 2007 he conducted Die Frau ohne Schatten and La Damnation de Faust. Recently he led The Bassarids (Bayerische Staatsoper Munich), Der fliegende Holländer (ROH Covent Garden), Der Prinz von Homburg (Theatre an der Wien), Lulu with the Wiener Philharmoniker (Salzburg) and he made his debut at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan with Die Frau ohne Schatten. In 2014 the CD recording of the DNO-production Der Schatzgräber with The Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra under his leading, was distinguished with an Edison. In 2019 he received the prestigious International Opera Award for 'best conductor'. In 2020 Marc Albrecht was appointed Ridder in de Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw because of his many years of contribution to the Dutch and international music landscape. After his farewell in June 2020 as chief conductor of Dutch National Opera and the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra|Dutch Chamber Orchestra, he received in October 2020 the Prix d'Amis, the prize of the Friends of Dutch National Opera, for his work as chief conductor. The jury praised Albrecht for his achievements, his attention to aesthetics and versatility in style.
