François Soons

Tenor

After studying musicology at Utrecht University, François Soons studied classical singing at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. Already during his master's education at the New Opera Academy he was asked to sing the title role in a CD recording of Mozart's opera Il sogno di Scipione. He was also a prize winner of the Montserrat Caballé Competition in Andorra. After this he sang the role of Il Conte di Libenskof Il viaggio a Reims conducted by Alberto Zedda at the famous Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro. He also sang as a freelancer at the Handel Festival in Karlsruhe and in many other German theatres.

After being selected for the Nachwuchssänger Wettbewerb in Regensburg, he was approached for a permanent position as soloist in the Landestheater Eisenach. Here he performed many roles during three seasons.

After his children were born, François decided to work closer to home and since 2008 he has been a member of the Chorus of Dutch National Opera
