
Katie Mitchell
Katie Mitchell is an award-winning theatre and opera director with a career spanning 30 years and over 100 productions, in the UK and internationally. Her work has been staged at the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre and the Royal Court and she has been an Associate Director at all three organisations. She has been a resident director at the Schaubühne Berlin, the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg and at Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. In 2015, Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam presented a retrospective of her work. She has won numerous awards for her directing and an OBE for services to theatre. She is well known for her work on climate change and her advocacy for women and young people, and for her pioneering creative work in ‘live cinema’. She created opera productions for The Royal Opera, Staatsoper Berlin and Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. At Dutch National Opera she directed the productions Orest, Written on Skin, Trauernacht and Jenůfa.
