James Farncombe

The British lighting designer James Farncombe already contributed to many theatre, ballet and opera productions, thereby working with renowned directors and graphic designers. Maintaining an everlasting collaboration with Katie Mitchell, the latter and Farncombe worked together for the operas Trauernacht, Alcina and Pelléas et Mélisande at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. Farncombe also designed the lighting for two of Mitchell’s scenographies at the Dutch National Opera: Leoš Janáček’s Jenůfa and Lessons in Love and Violence by Georg Benjamin. He was responsible for the lighting design of numerous productions under Simon Stone’s direction, such as the opera Innocence, which recently premiered at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. Der Zwerg is the second collaboration with Nanouk Leopold, as they already created Uit het leven van marionetten at ITA together during season 2018-2019.
