Nina Tonoli was born in Ghent (Belgium). She started taking amateur ballet classes at the age of nine, “which was actually too late”, she says. Yet at the age of twelve she was accepted for the Royal Ballet School in Antwerp. During a summer course at the British Royal Ballet School, she received a scholarship at the age of fifteen to continue her training at this prestigious academy. After her graduation in 2013, she was hired by Manuel Legris - artistic director of the Wiener Staatsballett and former étoile of the Ballet de l’Opéra national de Paris - as a member of the corps de ballet of the Wiener Staatsballett. One year later, she was promoted to demi-soloist, and in 2016 to soloist. Nina joined Dutch National Ballet in the rank of soloist in 2019.
In 2009, she received second prize and the ‘special prize’ at the Chausson d’Or competition in Paris. In 2011, she received the British Ballet Association Award, and on graduating from the Royal Ballet School in 2013 she received an Award of Excellence.
