Mezzo-soprano Klarijn Verkaart grew up in a musical environment. At an early age, she became a member of a youth chorus in Limburg conducted by Frans Voncken. After completing her Dutch Language and Literature studies at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, she studied classical vocals with Sasja Hunnego at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. Klarijn followed master classes with Jard van Nes, Nelly Miricioiu, Roberta Alexander, Albert Bonnema, Malcolm Martineau, and Gemma Visser. Peter Nilsson is currently coaching her.

As a soloist, Klarijn has sung in cantatas by Bach, masses by Schubert, Haydn, Mozart, Rossini, Palmeri, Heinichen, Bruckner, Jenkins and Vivaldi, oratorios by Wylie, Mendelssohn and Saint-Saëns and operas by Stravinsky, Poulenc, and Strauss. She has worked with conductors such as Etienne Siebens, Kenneth Montgomery, Lucas Vis, and Henrik Schaefer.

Klarijn sang with various professional choirs and ensembles. With singers Yvonne Kok and Bauwien van der Meer and accordionist Ellen Zijm, she creates performances for children and their families. She sings regularly with the Netherlands Radio Choir (Groot Omroepkoor). Since 2014 Klarijn has worked as a freelancer with the Chorus of Dutch National Opera. In 2022, she received a permanent position.
