The Italian Alessandro Carletti began his career in the late 1990s at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, where he gained valuable experience in opera production. Collaborations with several directors followed, including with Damiano Michieletto, Barrie Kosky, Lotte de Beer, Daniele Abbado, Silvia Paoli and John Turturro. Carletti designed the lighting for a.o. Don Carlo (Wiener Staatsoper), Nabucco (Royal Opera House London) and Un ballo in maschera (La Scala in Milan). He won the Knight of Illumination Award 2015 for his work on Guillaume Tell (Royal Opera House). At Dutch National Opera, Carletti previously designed the lighting for Il viaggio a Reims (2015) and Rigoletto (2017).
