Willem Bruls
Willem Bruls has written on Wagner’s Ring, Orientalism, Venice, Aleppo, Les Pêcheurs de Perles, and 200 years of music in Amsterdam. His book on Venice was also published in Germany in 2021. He wrote the libretto for Alp Arslan by composer Richard van Schoor. He also collaborated with composer Mathilde Wantenaar on the libretto for Een lied voor de maan and the oratorio Dear Professor. Bruls has created numerous scripts and stage adaptations for theatre and dance productions. As a production dramaturg, he has worked in the Netherlands and across Europe. For ITA/Ruhrtriennale, he created an adaptation of Pasolini’s Teorema, which was selected for the Lincoln Center Festival in New York. With Het Geluid Maastricht, he worked on The Shell Trial (2024) by Ellen Reid.
