Steven Sloane

Since 2013, he has also been a professor at the Universität der Künste in Berlin and director of the International Conducting Academy Berlin. In previous seasons, he was the principal conductor of the symphony orchestra of Stavanger, the American Composers Orchestra NY and Opera North. He has been a guest conductor with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic, Sydney Symphony, Tokyo Metropolitan Orchestra, the orchestra of the Hessischer Rundfunk, Philharmonia Orchestra London, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He was music director of the Spoleto Festival and artistic director of Opera North and Ruhr2010. At Ruhr2010, in September 2010, he conducted the world premiere of Hans Werner Henze’s Gisela!, directed by Pierre Audi, and conducted a choir of 65,000 singers. He was twice awarded the prize for best concert programme by the Deutscher Musikverlegerverband. Recent productions include: Dido and Aeneas (Oper Frankfurt), Anna Nicole (New York City Opera, Brooklyn Academy of Music-New York), Dido and Aeneas and Bluebeard’s Castle (LA Opera), The Love for Three Oranges (Deutsche Oper Berlin) and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Grand-Théâtre de Genève). Future productions include: Medea (Komische Oper Berlin).
