
Steef de Jong
Steef de Jong is a Dutch theatremaker, songwriter and visual artist. At the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, De Jong studied for visual artist, creating a music theatre performance for his undergraduate degree. Afterwards, he completed his education at the Amsterdam University of the Arts (DasArts) with music drama Engelberg Express, een Alpenoperette. Fascinated with operetta, De Jong created the one-man operetta trilogy with Ina Veen, about his love for the nineteenth century and Empress Sisi. The result were the shows Groots en Meeslepend wil ik leven, Ludwig and Straussvogel, created between 2014 and 2016. For Ludwig, De Jong won De Mus, the award for the most promising performance of the Dutch Parade in 2014. In addition, he received the Mary Dresselhuys Prijs in 2017 for exceptional acting. In his work, De Jong likes to explore the boundaries between art and kitsch, reason and sentiment, reality and fantasy, subtle details and grand gestures.

From 5 to 23 October 2025, Operetta Land will be performed at Dutch National Opera & Ballet, with Steef de Jong as co-librettist, stage director, designer and performer of the roles of the Verzinner, Lady Kant and Venus.
