Sophia Blyden

Sophia Blyden is a poet, writer, programme maker, and host. In her prose and poetry, she explores themes such as loneliness, power dynamics, and the boundary between fact and fiction. She draws inspiration from fairy tales, myths, and pop culture.

In September, her debut poetry collection Dobberen was published by Querido. In it, she explores the space between girlhood and motherhood.

Blyden has performed her poetry at festivals and stages such as Lowlands, Mensen Zeggen Dingen, the Poƫzieboys, and Volmondig. Her work has been published in literary magazines including nY, Deus Ex Machina, and De Revisor.

In addition to writing and performing, she also appears on stage as a host and presenter, for example at the Brommer op zee book club, the Dutch Poetry Slam Championship (NK Poetry Slam), and De Inktaap. She is also an editor at the literary magazine Tirade and works as a storytelling programmer for the Oerol Festival.

Blyden studied Modern Dutch Literature at Leiden University.
