Sir Mark Elder

Besides numerous symphonic engagements, he has recently been engaged on several operas: King Roger (Bregenz Festival), Tannhäuser (Opéra National de Paris), Billy Budd (Glyndebourne), Wonderful Town (Hallé) and various productions for Covent Garden, including The Tsar’s Bride, Fidelio and Wozzeck. At the 2013 Proms, he conducted the Hallé Orchestra in a Parsifal that was received with great enthusiasm. Sir Mark Elder received a knighthood in 2008, was voted ‘conductor of the year’ by the Royal Philharmonic Society in 2006, and received an Honorary Membership of the RPS in 2011. DNO productions: Pelléas et Mélisande and Benvenuto Cellini.
