Yannis François

Bass-baritone

The bass-baritone Yannis François was born in Guadeloupe and was initially trained as a ballet dancer before focusing on a career as an opera singer. He studied singing at the Conservatoire de Lausanne and was coached by Barbara Hannigan as part of her Equilibrium Young Artists Program. His repertoire is broad, but he focuses mainly on the Baroque repertoire and has performed roles in L'incoronazione di Poppea, Orfeo and Dido and Aeneas, including at the Staatsoper Berlin, Opéra de Versailles, the Opéra Comique de Paris, the Nederlandse Reisopera and the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence. He collaborated with Collegium 1704 and worked with conductors such as Ton Koopman, Ottavio Dantone and Jordi Savall. He regularly uses his passion for and knowledge of forgotten repertoire for various recording projects.
