South African soprano Vuvu Mpofu has a thriving career, singing in many important opera houses in Europe and beyond. In 2018, Mpofu made her debut at the Bayerische Staatsoper as a Blumenmädchen in a new production of Parsifal in 2018 conducted by Kirill Petrenko. Following this performance, she appeared as Cunegonde in Candide at the Bergen National Opera and Corinna in Il viaggio a Reims for the Rossini Opera Festival and at Opera Köln. Moreover, Mpofu performed the role of Clara in Porgy and Bess at the Teatro Real (Madrid) and Teatro Colon (Buenos Aries) and First Nymph in Rusalka at the Glyndebourne Festival. At this festival, she also performed the role of Musetta in La bohème. Not only did she reprise this role at Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, she also performed the role of Astarte in der Schmied von Gent (Schreker). Also, at Theater St Gallen, she appeared as Bess MacNeill in Missy Mazzoli’s Breaking the Waves and made her role debut as Violetta La Traviata. Mpofu was a prizewinner at the Operalia and Belvedere Competitions and was awarded the John Christie Award at the 2019 Glyndebourne Festival.
