Roger Smeets

Baritone

The Dutch baritone Roger Smeets has an international career spanning more than four decades. He has worked with directors including Barrie Kosky, Pierre Audi, Robert Wilson, Robert Carsen, Andreas Homoki and Klaus-Michael Grüber, and with conductors such as Riccardo Chailly, Sir Simon Rattle, Reinbert de Leeuw, Iván Fischer, Marc Albrecht and Edo de Waart. Roles he has sung include Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, the title role in Don Giovanni and Escamillo in Carmen. Venues he has performed at include Komische Oper Berlin, the Paris Opera and the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. He made his debut at Dutch National Opera in 1983.
