
Roger Smeets
Dutch baritone Roger Smeets has a more than 35-yearlong international career. He has worked with directors such as Barrie Kosky, Pierre Audi, Robert Wilson, Robert Carsen, Andreas Homoki, and Klaus-Michael Grüber, as well as with conductors such as Riccardo Chailly, Sir Simon Rattle, Reinbert de Leeuw, Iván Fischer, Marc Albrecht and Edo de Waart. His extensive repertoire includes roles such as Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, the title role in Don Giovanni and Eugene Onegin, and Escamillo in Carmen. Previous engagements have brought him to the Komische Oper Berlin, Opéra national de Paris, The Royal Opera in Copenhagen, and the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. He is a frequent guest with the Nederlandse Reisopera, Opera Zuid, as well as Dutch National Opera.
