Evelyn Herlitzius studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg. Since her debut at the Dresden State Opera in 1997 as Leonore in Fidelio, she has performed with all the major opera companies and festivals throughout Europe, the United States and Japan. Herlitzius has collaborated with numerous prestigious conductors and stage directors, including Giuseppe Sinopoli, Daniele Gatti, Adam Fischer, Kent Nagano, Christian Thielemann, Daniel Barenboim, Willy Decker, Jürgen Flimm, Andreas Homoki, Harry Kupfer, Christof Loy and Hans Neuenfels. Herlitzius was awarded, among many others, the title of Kammersängerin in 2002, the Christel-Goltz Prize in 1999 and the Deutsche Theaterpreis Faust in 2006. Herlitzius makes her debut in the role of Leokadja Begbick. With Dutch National Opera, she previously sang Färberin in Die Frau ohne Schatten (2008), the title role in Elektra (2011) and Kostelnička in Jenůfa (2018).

Evelyn Herlitzius sings the role of Leokadja Begbick in Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny, which will be performed at Dutch National Opera from 6 September to 27 September 2023.
