Rick van Veldhuizen

Composition

Rick van Veldhuizen is fascinated by what music, especially in combination with text, can tell us, and how it doesn't have to be bound to one genre, but can encompass all kinds of different influences. His pieces are therefore always above all expressions of vitality, of going through life uncompromisingly. His colorful instrumental, vocal, and electronic writing is steeped in influences from pop music, musical theater, and contemporary classical music, but also inspired by a variety of other, different musical traditions. In 2016 he graduated cum laude from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where he was taught by Joël Bons and Willem Jeths. He also took classes with teachers such as Olga Neuwirth, Carola Bauckholt and took classes in 'just intonation theory' with Marc Sabat at the Universität der Künste in Berlin. During the first edition of the Opera Forward Festival in 2016, his 'mini opera' was premiered over.
