Stage director

The versatile German director Philipp Stölzl works in opera, theatre and film. He started his career as a set and costume designer, made music videos for artists such as Rammstein, Madonna and Mick Jagger and made his feature film debut in 2002 with Baby, followed by (among others) Goethe!, Der Medicus, Ich war noch niemals in New York and Schachnovelle. In 2005, he made his debut as an opera director with a production of Der Freischütz. Many operas with various prestigious companies followed, including Wagner's Rienzi and Parsifal (Deutsche Oper Berlin), Rigoletto (Bregenzer Festspiele), Il trovatore and Turandot (Staatsoper Berlin), Cavalleria rusticana/Pagliacci (Semperoper Dresden & Salzburger Festspiele) and Andrea Chénier (Bayerische Staatsoper München).
