What does it mean to have a voice?

The Sound Voice Project is a moving work that focuses on the human voice. The relationship between voice and identity is explored based on personal stories of people who have lost their voice.

On Saturday March 22 we will discuss the impact of this production. Hannah Conway, composer and initiator of The Sound Voice Project, talks about her experiences while creating this work. Dr. Lisette van der Molen, speech therapist and researcher at the Netherlands Cancer Institute, tells us more about the psychosocial impact of voice loss and the possibilities that technology offers to improve the quality of life. Rudolf Weges, who works as senior music librarian at Dutch National Opera and is a professional trumpet player, shares his personal journey of losing his voice due to illness—and how he ultimately regained it. The conversation will be led by moderator Dymphie Braun.

The Sound Voice Project

For this The Sound Voice Project, the composer Hannah Conway worked with medical experts, professional opera singers and people with first-hand experience of losing the ability to speak. She uses innovative digital voice technology to create a moving experience in which art and science combine to reveal the beauty and fragility of the human voice.
