Michael Levine

Costume and set designer

Canadian set and costume designer Michael Levine is a graduate of The Central School of Art and Design London and has been working internationally for over 35 years for opera and theatre productions. In 2020 he was awarded the Olivier Award for Best New Opera for Billy Budd (Royal Opera House) and the 2019 Dora Award for Outstanding Scenic Design and Costume Design for Eugene Onegin (Canadian Opera). He has previously collaborated with directors such as Deborah Warner (Peter Grimes, Billy Budd), Claus Guth (Jenufa), Andreas Homoki (Iphégenie en Tauride, Sweeney Todd, Wozzeck), Barrie Kosky (The Cunning Little Vixen), Ted Huffman (Madama Butterfly), and Robert Carsen (Eugene Onegin, Die Tote Stadt, The Queen of Spades, The Magic Flute, Don Giovanni). At Dutch National Opera he has previously created the set design for Hansel and Gretel (Lotte de Beer, 2015), The Magic Flute (Simon McBurney, 2018), A Dog’s Heart (Simon McBurney, 2017) and Carmen (Robert Carsen, 2022).
