Mariss Jansons

In 1973, he was appointed assistant conductor with the St Petersburg orchestra. From 1979 to 2000, he was principal conductor with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, to which he brought great international acclaim. As a guest conductor with orchestras like the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Wiener Philharmoniker, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the major orchestras of the United States, he has given many concerts all over the world. Between 2004 and 2015, he was principal conductor with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, with whom he had been a guest conductor nearly every year since his debut in 1988. Mariss Jansons has received many awards, including the highest award in Latvia, the Order of the Three Stars, in 2006. On 1 November 2013, he was made a Knight in the Order of the Netherlands Lion.
