Lisenka Heijboer Castañón

Stage director

Dutch-Peruvian director and theatre-maker Lisenka Heijboer Castañón made her debut on the main stage at Dutch National Opera with FAUST [working title] in 2020. In 2022, she was responsible for the music theatre project I Have Missed You Forever at the Opera Forward Festival and she co-directed Tristan und Isolde with Zack Winokur at Santa Fe Opera. Heijboer Castañón has previously worked as an assistant director or co-director for example with Pierre Audi, Lotte de Beer and Krzysztof Warlikowski, and at opera houses including Dutch National Opera and Bayerische Staatsoper. In 2024, she received the prestigious Götz Friedrich Prize for her stage direction of John Adams’ The Gospel According to the Other Mary at Wiener Volksoper.

Lisenka Heijboer Castañón is responsible for the revival direction of Tristan und Isolde, performed from 8 to 23 February 2026 at Dutch National Opera.
