Laurent Pelly

Highlights of his theatre work include Victor Hugo’s Mille francs de récompense and Mangeront-ils?, Hanokh Levin’s Funérailles d’hiver, Shakespeare’s Macbeth and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Ionesco’s La cantatrice chauve and Aristophanes’ The Birds and Sur la Tête. He has recently created new productions of Lucia di Lammermoor (Opera Philadelphia and Wiener Staatsoper), Falstaff (Teatro Real Madrid in co-production with La Monnaie/de Munt, Opéra national de Bordeaux and Nikikai Opera Foundation Tokyo) and Offenbach’s Barbe-bleue (Opéra de Lyon). Other recent productions include his Candide (Santa Fe Opera), Il barbiere di Siviglia (Théâtre des Champs Elysées), Viva la mamma! (Opéra de Lyon, Grand Théâtre de Genève), Le Coq d'or (De Munt, Teatro Real de Madrid, Opera national de Lorraine), Béatrice et Bénédict (Glyndebourne Festival) and Gounod’s Le médecin malgré lui (Geneva). He has also directed productions of Les contes d’Hoffmann, L’elisir d’amore, La fille du regiment, Cendrillon, Don Pasquale, Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges and L’heure espagnole, L’étoile and Le Comte Ory.
