Belgian conductor Karel Deseure studied flute at the Royal Conservatoire in Antwerp and orchestral conducting at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague.

In recent seasons, he has been a guest with orchestras such as the Belgian National Orchestra, the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, Württembergisches Kammerorchester Heilbronn, l’Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, l’Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra, the South Netherlands Philharmonic and the North Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, among others.

Deseure is also active as an opera conductor. At Opera Ballet Flanders, he conducted the successful production of Kurt Weill’s Der Silbersee. He has also appeared with Nederlandse Reisopera, l’Opéra de Toulon and Opera Zuid.

In 2012, Deseure won the prestigious conductor prize of the Anton Kersjes Fonds and in 2018 he won the Schaunard Award for the opera productions he conducted in the Netherlands that year. Since 2019, Deseure also teaches orchestral conducting at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
