Jossi Wieler

He worked as theater director in Heidelberg, Bonn, Stuttgart, Basel, Hamburg, Berlin, at the Münchner Kammerspiele and several times at Salzburger Festspiele. He directed among others Kleists Amphytryon (Schauspielhaus Bonn), Jelineks Wolken. Heim. (Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg), Euripides’ Alkestis and Claudels Mittagswende (Münchner Kammerspiele). Since 1994 he created opera staging, mainly at Oper Stuttgart, where he was an intendant from 2011 to 2018. His production Ariadne auf Naxos (Salzburger Festspiele) was appointed as ‘Production of the Year’ by the prestigious magazine Opernwelt. In the following years they won the same price for three other productions (Dokter Faust 2005, Alceste 2006, Sonnambula 2012). For Dokter Faust and Die glückliche Hand/Osud they also won the German theater price ‘Der Faust’. Future: Les Huguenots (Grand Théâtre de Genève). The Dutch Opera productions: Lucio Silla, Così fan tutte, Don Giovanni, Le nozze di Figaro.
