Costume designer

After ten years as a freelance designer, working with companies including Het Nationale Ballet, Nederlands Dans Theater, and De Nationale Opera, Joke Visser joined Nederlands Dans Theater in 1987. Two years later, she was appointed head of the costume workshop at NDT. Since then, Visser has been involved in the design and creation of costumes for almost all of Jiří Kylián's works for NDT 1, 2, and 3, including Bella Figura (1995), Wings of Wax (1997), A Way A Lone (1998), One of a Kind (1998), Indigo Rose (1998), Half Past (1999), Arcimboldo 2000 (2000), Click Pause-Silence (2001), Birth-Day (2001), 27’52” (2002), Claude Pascal (2002), When Time takes Time (2002), Far too Close (2003), Last Touch (2003), Sleepless (2004), Toss of a Dice (2005), Chapeau (2005), Tar and Feathers (2006), Vanishing Twin (2008), Gods and Dogs (2008), and Mémoires d’oubliettes (2009). She also designed the costumes for Kylián’s Doux Mensonges (1999) for the Ballet de l’Opéra national de Paris.

In addition, Visser works with other choreographers and supervises the creation of costumes for organisations all around the world that perform Kylián’s works.
