Johannes Witt

Conductor

Johannes Witt discovered his passion for orchestral music while serving as a timpanist in several youth orchestras. He specialised in the marimba but later studied conducting at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne and the Rimsky Korsakov Conservatory in St. Petersburg.

Witt was a resident conductor at Essen’s Aalto Theatre, where he conducted both opera and ballet performances. He has held this role at Oper Wuppertal since 2021. He has also recently made his debuts at the Wiener Staatsoper, Staatstheater Stuttgart, Finnish National Opera, Opera House Oslo, National Theatre Prague, Muziekgebouw Amsterdam, and Dutch Nationale Opera & Ballet, among others.

Witt has been serving as artistic director of the Landesjugendorchester Hamburg since 2020. He shares his passion for music with talented young musicians and aims to encourage them in this way.
