Ivo van Hove (director) was appointed director of Toneelgroep Amsterdam in 2001 and directed the Holland Festival from 1998 to 2004. Van Hove’s productions are performed at many venues in the Netherlands and abroad, including theatres in New York (Broadway), London (West End), Seoul and Melbourne. He has directed with La Comédie-Française, Münchner Kammerspiele, National Theatre and New York Theatre Workshop, and staged productions of Lulu, Der Ring des Nibelungen (Vlaamse Opera), Brokeback Mountain (Teatro Real), and La Clemenza di Tito and Idomeneo (De Munt). His awards include two Tony Awards, the Grand Prix de la Critique, two Obie Awards, the Critics’ Circle Theatre Award, the Amsterdam Business Oeuvre Award, the IJ Award, the Flemish Culture Prize for Overall Cultural Merit and – together with Jan Versweyveld – the Proscenium Award and the Amsterdam Award for the Arts. In 2014, he received an Honorary Doctorate for General Merit from the University of Antwerp. King Filip of Belgium awarded Van Hove Commander of the Order of the Crown.
