When Ian discovered he could sing a low C at the age of 13, he knew he had to become a singer. Years later, 35 years ago now, he joined Dutch National Opera. Since then he has sung here with great pleasure and enjoyed the various ways of staging, the crazy sets and the different opera titles.
As a member of the Chorus of DNO, Ian Spencer also wants to refute the many existing misconceptions about basses in general and himself in particular. For example: basses have a lot of energy. Or: the fact that after a serious accident a few years ago he was told that he could not continue his career on stage and that he would have to walk with a cane. By now, both misconceptions have been refuted by Ian.
Ian derives a lot of pleasure from singing operas, but also musicals, singing as cantor in his church and the Christmas concerts of DNO.
