The Italian conductor Enrique Mazzola is known as an excellent interpreter and advocate of the bel canto repertoire. He is also a specialist in the French repertoire and the early works of Verdi. From 2012 to 2019 he was artistic director and chief conductor of the Orchestre national d'Île-de-France and since season 2018-2019 he is the first permanent guest conductor of the Deutsche Oper in Berlin. He was appointed Chevalier de l'ordre des Arts et des Lettres as a reflection of his significant contribution to the musical life of France in 2018. Since the 2021-2022 season, he has been the resident conductor of The Lyric Opera of Chicago. At Dutch National Opera he conducted Donizetti Queens in Concert in the heart of the pandemic.
