Ellen Reid

Composer

American composer Ellen Reid studied at Columbia University and the California Institute of the Arts. Her work includes a wide range of compositions, from orchestral works to sound installations and from ensemble works to musical theatre. Her orchestral works have been performed by the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, among others. Her first full-length opera, p r i s m, about the psychological consequences for victims of sexual abuse, won the famous Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2019. As of 2020, Reid is working on the project SOUNDWALKS, in which she uses music to illuminate an existing natural environment. In the 2023-2024 season she will be Composer in Residence at both the Concertgebouw and the Concertgebouw Orchestra.
