Elena Zaitseva
Elena Zaytseva studied at the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts in St Petersburg. After working with the Lenfilm studio and the Mariinsky Theatre, she became head of the costume department at the Novaya Opera and later at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. Zaytseva has designed costumes for numerous opera and ballet productions and has collaborated with renowned houses such as Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Opéra national de Paris, La Monnaie in Brussels, English National Opera, Teatro Real in Madrid, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, and Opernhaus Zürich.
Her style is distinguished by rich detail and a refined use of colour that enhances the psychological depth of the characters. Together with Dmitri Tcherniakov, she has worked on productions including Ariadne auf Naxos in Hamburg, Die tote Stadt in Zurich, and Giulio Cesare at the Salzburg Festival. She previously collaborated with Dutch National Opera on The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh (2012) and Prince Igor (2017).
