Festive anniversary programme

Breaking with tradition, this year we are presenting our annual gala at the end of the season, rather than the beginning. The gala will be even more festive and splendid than usual, as it will celebrate the 60th anniversary of our company.

Sparkling end of anniversary season

We started the tradition of an annual gala performance in 2011, on the occasion of our 50th anniversary. The gala has now become a real institution: an extremely popular event that is greatly appreciated by ballet-lovers as well as celebrities from the worlds of media, culture and politics.

Surprise programme

During this year’s gala, too, we are once again presenting an exclusive surprise programme, involving a total of about two hundred dancers. This time, the programme will revolve around the 60th anniversary of Dutch National Ballet.

Grand Défilé

By tradition, the gala opens with a dazzling and heart-warming Grand Défilé, which presents not only the dancers of Dutch National Ballet, but also the Junior Company dancers and all the pupils and students of the National Ballet Academy. After the gala, you can join the roaring party in the foyers of Dutch National Opera & Ballet, attended by the dancers and choreographers.

Dutch National Ballet Orchestra

The Gala is conducted by Matthew Rowe and Jonathan Lo

Since its inception in 1965, the orchestra has been proud to accompany its partners, Dutch National Ballet and Nederlands Dans Theater. The working method is unique in the Netherlands.

Dutch National Ballet Orchestra

Dutch Ballet Orchestra, with Matthew Rowe as principal conductor, consists of a regular core of 45 musicians, supported where necessary by highly qualified guest performers. This gives the orchestra its unique character: flexible, dynamic and high-quality.
